Today we placed mulch in the boxes, planted plants and our first scare crow was placed into a grade box.  Thank you to Neil Davis, a Dad at BLPS who has made a beautiful seat from reclaimed redgum and installed this today.  Thanks to Ned Culibrk and Sharon Smiley for helping as well.  The seat is placed in the garden in memory of Jennie Tranter and offers a place to sit and reflect and enjoy the garden.  Thanks also to Bruce Cusack for fixing our opening plaques in place. Our whole school is excited about the opening and we are all looking forward to enjoying a picnic with our families, listening to the Choir, looking at beautiful art work, playing games, eating sausages and celebrating in the garden.

A very BIG THANK YOU to our two wonderful Berwick Lodge Dads – Brett Fritzlaff and Luke Mackenzie who came on Tuesday night to finish laying the pavers around our potting bench and to also put some steppers through another part of the garden.  Thank you to Phoenix Stone for kindly donating the pavers and to the Dads for giving their time to lay them.  Thank you also to their wives, Julia and Kate and their children for coming along to see what their Dad’s were doing.  It was lovely to see their families enjoying the garden.

The day started very early with Matthew McCrum completing the potting benches.  We now have 3 different size benches to suit all age levels across the school.  Matthew also finished off lots of fiddly jobs such as fixing the shed door, bracing the front of the shed, anchoring the bench seat, levelling the potting benches, measuring up the water feature for our pump and installing some 1/2 pallets to hang pots on.  Two Berwick Lodge Primary School Dads, Luke Mackenzie and Brett Fritzlaff came to lay our pavers around the potting benches.  They did a fantastic job of laying the pavers and setting out some stepping pavers along the garden beds.  I was busy painting the surrounds onto the blackboards which are located on the tanks, painting our compost bays and helping where needed.  Thank you very much to Luke, Brett and Matthew for giving up their Sunday to come and help in our School Community Garden. I really appreciate all of your help and support! Julia, wife to Brett and mum to Amelia in Prep M and Amelia’s little sister came for a visit to the garden to see what their Dad was doing.  It is really nice to see famlies in our garden. Luke and Brett will be back on Tuesday to compelete the paving installation and have our garden ready for the open night. Andy, Nicole, Ruby and Daisy Coupar came and planted some sun flowers and donated a small wheelbarrow, concrete animals and plants for our garden. Thanks to everyone for your help today.  We are on count down now for opening!  5 days to go!!!!

We had a very busy few hours moving and spreading mulch and granetic sand to finish off our paths and garden beds.  A special THANK YOU to Madeleine McCrum and Cassi Dorian who spent the whole day painting our donated, reclaimed garden shed.  Well done girls it is very colourful and looks fantastic! A BIG THANKYOU to Matthew McCrum who has built three compost bays and our potting benches.  THANK YOU to Damian Miller, Dad and plumber who completed the installation of our tanks. Our Junior School Council fundraised to purchase a special water feature for our garden. This is a windmill and will be driven by a solar pump. THANK YOU Andy Coupar our landscaper, for installing this. He also installed a large rock which will have our opening plaque placed on it. Our garden is looking fabulous and we are all getting very excited now about our Opening night next Friday, 28th November from 5-7pm. The Mayor, Mick Morland will officially open the garden at 5.45pm.

The day started early with Damian Miller (Dad at BLPS and a plumber at Pivot plumbing http://www.pivotplumbing.com.au) coming to install our garden tap.  He did this in no time and now we can water our garden easily! Damian’s boys – Ajay and Beau visited the garden as well with their mum Jen. Thanks Damian for all of your help!  Matt McCrum, Rob Kelly and myself were only going to spend an hour or two in the garden getting the donated shed painted and the watering system hooked up to the tanks but we worked all day to finish off jobs including undercoating the tanks ready to have blackboards painted on them, completing the hook up to the tank watering system, undercoating the garden shed and starting to build the potting benches.  Thanks Rob and Matt for a really enjoyable and rewarding day spent in the garden.

Community Garden Friday 14th November 2014 Installing Watering System

We had one mission tonight and that was to get the watering system installed.  A big THANK YOU to Robert Kelly, Trish Luke, Tanya Craig, Nick Pryor, Jarrod McCrum, Matt McCrum, Sandra McCrum, Andy Coupar, Nicole Coupar, Ruby and Daisy for assisting with jobs in the garden and digging the trenches to lay the watering system.  This is a time consuming job, requiring a lot of effort and is not easy to see what you have achieved when finished as it is largely underground! We managed to install nearly all of the main feeder hoses to each garden box.  Thanks to Matt for organising and sourcing all of the parts for us.  We enjoyed digging and getting dirty!

A BIG THANKYOU to the staff and families that helped on Friday night in the hot conditions to assist with a few more jobs in the garden.  Thank you to the staff: Nick Pryor, Robert Kelly, Traceye Rapinett, Lianne Morgan, Susan Wookey and her 3 girls, Mairead Muscoe, Tanya Craig, Sue Naismith and Henry Grossek  and to the families: Sharon Smiley, Diesel, Tyler, Emma Jephcott, Ned and Harper, Nicole Coupar, and Matthew McCrum for assisting with putting up the garden shed, extending the fence, weeding the garden beds and planting some seedlings. A special part of the evening was when Henry planted a beautiful Weeping Japanese Maple tree in memory of Jennie Tranter, his step daughter and a staff member at Berwick Lodge, who sadly passed away in July.  Jennie was a great supporter of our community garden and I am sure she would have loved the tree, especially the beautiful deep red coloured foliage which truly matches the bubbly, colourful person Jennie was. Thanks to the PFA for providing our cold drinks on the night.  See what fun we had on the evening!
