On Friday 11th December we will be holding a Family Twilight Christmas Picnic for our school community to enjoy.  On the night the garden will be open to explore and all visitors are welcome to come and judge our annual recycled scare crow competition.  This year each grade will be making a scarecrow from recycled materials and David Westlake – Sustainability Education officer from the City of Casey will be judging the class awards.  We also have the ‘People’s Choice Award’ which will be judged by the public.  We look forward to a wonderful evening with our families.  There will also be an Art show, Choir performance, Dance and lots of games and activities to enjoy.  Bring a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere and help celebrate a wonderful year at Berwick Lodge Primary School.

We held our Community Garden Harvest stall on Friday and the students eagerly harvested the produce during lunch time and set up our stall.  There was plenty of yummy silver beet, spring onions, lettuce, mint, coriander, parsley, rosemary, celery, onions and kale for sale.  All items were purchased by gold coin donation with all proceeds going directly back into our garden program.  Thank you to all the families and community members who support our garden. Have you seen the beautiful art work that has been installed at the end of the main corridor on the portable walls?  It is stunning!  Congratulations to our students in grade 6 and also to Nicole Coupar and Julie McLeod for their vision and guidance with this project.  The first panel has been installed and has an aboriginal art theme.  There are four more boards that will be unveiled in the coming months as they are completed.  They truly will be a wonderful addition to our beautiful new garden area.

We had a wonderful turn up for our School Community Garden Working Bee. We had many helpers including some new faces which was fantastic.  We shovelled and moved lots of mulch, weeded our garden beds and spread granitic sand on our paths.  A very BIG THANKYOU to our wonderful volunteers and families who helped: Regan G, Daisy C, Nicole C, Andy C, Max G, Mariska M, Sebastian M, Rebecca M, Laura W, Olivia W, Cooper K, Natalia N, Stan N, Leah M, Jasper W, Harvey W, Jo W, Skye M, Patricia M, Miss Cooper, Peter S, Hannah S, Rhianna G, Zara G, Mr Kelly, Madylin G, Miss Craig, Miss Quelch, Mrs Naismith, Ms Gilliland, June C, Mrs King and a few other people that assisted as well. The children all had a wonderful time moving the mulch and watering our plants. As they say ‘many hands make light work’ and it certainly did!

We held a successful Harvest Stall at school. Our garden club students harvested the produce during recess and lunchtime and then we offered this to our school community for a gold coin donation.  All proceeds go straight back into the garden program.  We raised $72 for our garden program.  Thank you to all the families that support our garden.

What a wonderful day we all had planting a new garden and also planting plants within our classrooms.  All students had the opportunity to plant a plant to take home.  The Prep children had the opportunity to work with Karlea from Bunnings who assisted with the planting activities.  A BIG THANKYOU to Bunnings Fountain Gate for donating seeds and potting mix for this day.  We would also like to say a BIG THANKYOU to Berwick Toyota who kindly donated native plants for our garden club students to plant in a new garden near the BER building.  We had a wonderful time planting our new garden beds.  Thank you also to Andy and Nicole Coupar who assisted on the day. Thank you to the JSC for organising a whole school dress up day supporting a “Lean, Green, Keep it Clean” focus for our school.  Look at all the fun we had!
